Pilsner 4.9%

A Kiwi classic, Emerson’s Pilsner beautifully showcases Nelson grown Riwaka hops. It's overt fruitiness oozes citrus and passionfruit aromas and flavours, and begs comparison with Marlborough’s world-beating Sauvignon Blancs. The beer’s palate shows a hint of early malt sweetness but develops a lengthy dry finish. So not a bad drop then.

Bookbinder 3.7%

A wonderfully drinkable interpretation of a classic English ale. Bookbinder is a blend of four malts combined with two classic Nelson grown European hops (Fuggles and Riwaka). The beer pours an attractive reddish brown, with a cream coloured head. Bookbinder has a sweet, perfumey, malt and hop aroma with a soft, malty, fruit and vinous palate that is both full flavoured and refreshing with a long, gently drying finish.

1812 5.0%

One of New Zealand’s first new generation pale ales and now a classic, Emerson’s 1812 is in our humble opinion a masterpiece of balance. Pouring a bright amber hue beneath a deep cream coloured head, the aroma hints at caramel offset by a light fruitiness. Medium bodied, the palate first offers a marmaladey combination of ripe citrus and caramelised malts before the resiny hops bring home a lingering dry finish.

Porter 5.0%

Porter is the oldest commercially brewed style and London Porter was Emerson’s first beer. Dark, dry and mellow with some hoppy characteristics, pours a deep brown colour with reddish tints.
The aroma is toasty, with a hint of sweetness and some earthy hop notes. Firm-bodied but not heavy, with a creamy texture, the dryish palate is full of roasted malt, coffeeish notes and a sustained bitterness.

Big Rig 5.2%

Big hops tropical fruits and citrus flavours are underlined with a malt base. A big beer that's satisfying and brooding.

Phantom Lord Stout 4.0%

Exercise. Fresh Air. Connecting with nature. All fine reasons to get amongst the great outdoors. But we know the real motive - a well-deserved beer at the end of it all. Hop Wops is lightly tropical in flavour with a fresh hoppy finish, making it the perfect beer for the middle of nowhere. Also tastes pretty good in the middle of somewhere.

About the Brewery

Emerson's Brewery Limited is a microbrewery located in Dunedin, New Zealand established in 1992.

Emerson’s beers are not pasteurised like most mainstream New Zealand beers. The yeast is left alive in the beer to mature and enhance the flavour of the beer. Emerson’s ales are produced from malted barley, hops, yeast and water. They do not have preservatives, added sugar, artificial colouring, have not been pasteurised and some are not filtered. Some Emerson’s beers are presented in French oak barrels.

The quality of Emerson's beers was praised by English beer critic Michael Jackson, who rated the 1812 India Pale Ale as one of the best 500 beers in the world. Emerson's has won numerous beer awards in Australia and New Zealand.
