Wine tasting notes

 A very dark colour. The aromas leap out of the glass on this one  along with the plummy fruits there are floral, sweet spice notes. On the palate there is again weight and density with the sweet fruit flavours coming through along with vanilla, then a meaty, savouriness. 

A number of critics have rated this Hawkes Bay wine extremely highly: the 2013 vintage was given a score of 95 by Bob Campbell.

Numerous prizes have been won by this wine: the Sydney International Wine Competition awarded the 2013 vintage Blue-Gold and the Air New Zealand Wine Awards awarded Pure Gold.

Church Road Grand Reserve Syrah is produced only in great vintages from the very best low-cropping vineyard blocks are targeted for selective hand-harvesting to give wines with the greatest possible flavour, depth and concentration. In the winery this wine is made using small batch, traditional winemaking techniques that emphasise texture, structure and subtle complexity, while still letting the fruit shine through.
